It was the first granddaughter on both sides, so of course our expectations for the simcha was perfection!! The kiddush table was decorated with baby girl paraphernalia. Yet, the one component that blew us all away was the most stunning ecru colored Victorian looking cake (lace, ruffles, soft pink flowers & pearls) we’d ever seen, courtesy of Rolings Bakery. Stares at this artistic beauty were in abundance, as were the comments: sophisticated, royal, elegant and, finally, “it’s too gorgeous to cut.” I did cut that first slice and was I blown away a second time! The texture was as light as the colors were soft. The initial taste had my taste buds dancing with joy, delighting in a perfect sweetness in that one bite (and in the many other bites that ensued)!
It’s the cake that my almost six-year old still talks about — almost 3 years later! His beloved “car cake”. Little did I know when I requested a cake decorated with cars that I would find the most gorgeously designed cake. And, honestly, it tasted as good at it looked. The icing was just the right about of sweetness and inside the cake was so light. It totally made my son’s birthday! Thank you, Rolings Bakery. I’ve had occasion to sample some more Roling’s cakes, and they never disappoint (and, believe me, I can be very picky when it comes to quality!)
Whenever there’s a special occasion to mark, be it a birthday, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, or graduation — I think of Tehila of Roling’s Bakery. She makes scrumptious cakes, each decorated by hand in the prettiest, most ornate way imaginable. My favorite is the masterpiece she made for the Eagles’ first (to date) Super Bowl win. Though it was a bit of a last-minute order, she created a beautiful cake, decorated with yard lines and a player. It was the talk of our Super Bowl party — until the Eagles took the lead! The dessert showed the sort of creativity and attention to detail that is always on display in her works. Every piece is individual and special and delicious.
